Volunteers

Help us out at PETsMART

PetsMart
The Humane Society of Wayne County has been offered another excellent opportunity to adopt more cats and lower the overcrowding at its shelter. PETsMART® is opening a new store in Victor near Eastview Mall and has asked us to be in the adoption center there just as we are in the PETsMART® store in Webster. To take advantage of this opportunity, we need your help!  We will need a cadre of dedicated, responsible volunteers willing to care for the cats and process adoption applications. Initially, we need volunteers willing to commit to four hours (10:00 am to 2:00 pm) a day, any day of the week (Monday through Sunday). Ultimately, the goal is to staff the adoption center Monday through Friday evenings (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm) as well. Just as in the Webster store, each volunteer will schedule his/her own time for the upcoming month in advance. We will train you.

Will you help? Here is an opportunity to become actively involved in finding good homes for our wonderful cats and to meet other cat-loving individuals. Just as your input about a new shelter vehicle resulted in the purchase of that vehicle, your response to this request may determine whether HSWC can expand into Victor to provide another satellite adoption center for us.  Please respond to the shelter at (315) 946-3389 or to Andi Meyer at (315) 986-1287 ASAP. The new store is scheduled to open sometime in the late fall.

Cars for Critters

Do you have an old car, truck, RV boat or snowmobile that it’s time to get rid of? Have you ever thought about donating a vehicle to charity? It just got a whole lot easier. Full story

All Aboard the Penny Express!

The Penny Express has achieved its first goal, replacing the old metal cat kennels with brighter, more open ones.

Now it's going to the dogs. Our next project is to get raised beds for the dog barn. The ones that we are interested in can be purchased from Kuranda Dog Beds. Check out the Penny Express on the Donations page for other ways you can help us with this project.

Could your dog benefit from some obedience training?

There are training classes named Puppy Kindergarten (ages 7–16 weeks), Teen Puppy (ages 5–11 months), and Good Dog (ages 1 year and older) starting February 1 for six weeks, ending March 14 (no classes February 22) at the Palmyra-Macedon Middle School, Palmyra.  $25 discount for dogs adopted from the HSWC within in the last year.

Visit http://www.pawsitivebehavior.com for information and registration.
