Adoption Process
|
Pick out your new family member.
Fill out adoption application.
Humane Society staff will review.
If you are adopting a dog, it must be licensed before leaving
the shelter. This is NYS law. (Cats do not require licensing.)
|
 |
|
There is a 24 hour waiting period before you can take the
animal home. |
|
If the dog is over 3 months of age we will give you a copy of
the rabies certificate to take to the Town Clerk to license your
dog. |
|
If the dog is not over 3 months of age, you will have to get a
puppy license. This does not require a rabies certificate. You
will be required to get the dog rabies vaccinated by the date on
your contract. This will be when the dog is 3 months of age. We
have a vet that comes every other week and updates rabies
vaccinations. If you choose a dog that has not yet had a rabies
vaccination, we will make an appointment and have the dog
vaccinated for you. Then we will give you a copy of the
certificate so you may obtain a license. This process can
sometimes take 2 days depending on vet availability. |
|
After obtaining a license, return to the shelter and take your
new pet home. |
|
The contract that you sign is very important. If your
pet is unaltered, it is critical that you get it altered by the
contract date. |
