Adopt-A-Pet At Work
|
|
Adopt-A-Pet events have been part
of the Humane Society for several years. The goals of Adopt-A-Pet
are to increase awareness of the Wayne County Shelter, get
exposure for the animals, and help to educate pet owners in our
area. Initially, they were large events that took as many animals
into the community as the 6-7 volunteers could transport. There
were four events per year. Today the events are smaller but much
more frequent.

Coordinated by Stephanie Cooper,
there 35-40 Adopt-A-Pets scheduled annually, including monthly
visits to Country Max and Dick's Tropical Fish 'n' Critters in
Ontario. She also accepts invitations to various annual festivals
in the area.

Adding a binder of photos and
profiles of pets available for adoption has increased the
popularity and effectiveness of Adopt-A-Pet. "On average, the
program is responsible for about one adoption per week," says
Cooper. "It's getting to be common for people to see an
animal or a photo and rush off to the shelter, especially from
Wal-Mart."

schedule an Adopt-A-Pet function, contact Stephanie.
